March Moon Paintings

March Moon Paintings

Here’s the next set of moon paintings I’ve created for March.

At the time of the full moon on March 7 (also my birthday), I felt like I had found some balance in my life, and I took a breath there for a short time. But sure enough as the new moon energy came back, I think I toppled a bit. By the new moon on March 21st, I had started to take aim…do you see the new moon in the bow of the arrow?

One target I won’t be hitting

February Moon Paintings

February Moon Paintings

The full Moon at the beginning of February found me feeling all the energies of all three of these symbols: the groundhog, the owl and the heron. Hibernating a bit, living beneath the surface, I still found myself also peering above the rim of daily life seeking balance and stability—and seeking wisdom. By new moon, I find myself stepping off the edge, I guess! Into the unknown I go!

I’m enjoying learning about the Moon and it’s cycles in the yearlong Moonshine class I’m taking with Effy Wild, creating Moon paintings each month (goauche on watercolor paper) for the new and full moons.

I have a lot to learn still about the Moon, and one good source I recommend is Moonology by Yasmin Boland. You might want to check it out. I appreciate how Boland explains that physically, the moon travels around the earth, the earth travels around the sun and it’s consistent change in shape from a sliver in the sky to a full circle to a sliver again is caused by the changing angles between the three—which I think we all understand.

What I find interesting is that

January Moon Paintings

January Moon Paintings

As I mentioned earlier this month, I am replacing my 2022 year-long project with a flurry of creative projects this year—including a couple of different online classes and programs. One of those programs is Effy Wild’s Moonshine 2023 program—and these are my first two moon paintings!

The full moon was January 6th and I had barely begun the program for the full moon so this painting was entirely off the cuff. Simply a figure traveling by the light of the full moon

A few weeks later for the new moon on January 21st, I began

Hygge--52 Cards Project #50

Hygge--52 Cards Project #50

It’s the week of before Christmas and “all through house, not a creature is stirring not even a mouse.” (Now that we’re settled that is.)

Hannukah is now just beginning as I write this, and the winter solstice is here, and all in all t’s been deliciously quiet around here this week before festivities begin. So my theme for card #50 (!) of my 52 Cards Project is simply hygge. ‘Hygge’ as you probably know since the concept swept the internet in recent years, is a Danish/Norwegian word for that feeling of coziness and contentment you get when you’re all bundled up at home in the dead of winter.

Yep, that’s the feeling this week. I hope you are enjoying the same!

As a sidenote, I am fast coming to the end of this 52 Cards Project! Only two more cards to go! That means that not only have I created a drawing for each week of the year, but I’ve also consistently written about each card on my blog here, week after week (which you might be receiving in the form of a weekly email).

Thank you so much for joining me on this little adventure! I hope my drawings and little stories about my life each week enriches yours in some way, and even more, my secret hope is that you start thinking about your own creativity, too.

I know I have been

Wonder—52 Cards Project #42

Wonder—52 Cards Project #42

This week the theme card for my 52 Cards Project is Wonder. With nights growing increasingly colder, we (and our cats) are retreating inside more. And yet, the wild outdoors calls. I noticed Leo, our young tabby the other night standing up from the floor to the bedroom windowsill to look outside and I realized that I’ve spent a fair share of time lately looking up from my sketchbook, my book, my ipad—to stare out the window too.

Winter is coming. The sky is very dark (with just a crescent of a moon). There’s plenty of things to worry about in the world these days…and yet, I do believe the universe works in mysterious ways…the wonder of what’s out there calls. The birds. The critters. The wind. the deep mystery of all that is alive. That is what Leo is looking for, I’m sure, and I guess when I think about it, so am I.

And neither of us wants to miss one minute of it!

A note about long term projects. This week

Equinox — 52 Cards Project #38

Equinox — 52 Cards Project #38

The major event for the 38th week of this year, and the theme for this week’s card for my 52 Cards Project was the Fall Equinox.

With night and day in more or less equal balance this week, that’s where I found myself too. But at the same time, it’s that time of year when we know what’s coming. Here in the northern hemisphere the nights are gonna get longer — and longer — and the days will get shorter — and colder.

This week I’m trying to

Stop — 52 Card Project #27

Stop — 52 Card Project #27

I came down with Covid this last week so my weekly theme card for my 52 Cards Project is a little late—and a little obscure. For this personal project of mine I try to finish the card and post it to my blog by the Monday right after the week ends. However, while not life threatening because I am vaccinated and boostered, I had it pretty bad this weekend. I could not draw much. I’m still really tired—but over the last few days I could work slowly on my card and here it is.

So I chose the ancient Hamsa hand symbol for its universal message of
